Things you should know about a and as level

A-Level stands for Advanced Level and AS-Level stands for Advanced Subsidiaries
Level. A-Level is a two-years course for students before entering university. The first
year of the course is called as AS-Level and the second year is called A2-Level. In
most cases, students must have at least five GCSE with grade of 9 – 4 or A* – C. In
addition, they must also have at least grade of 6 for the specific subject(s) they want
to study. However, some schools may have their own regulation towards the
qualification.

A-Level and AS-Level are intended for high school students who are preparing for
entering university. The two years course can be done in high school or even further
education college.

A-Level is intended as preparation and requirement for students to enter university.
Although it is possible to enter university without A-Level, having A-Level
qualification is highly regarded.

Many prestigious universities (especially in the UK) accept A-Level as a qualification
as it is highly regarded. Nevertheless, it is best to check with the universities about
what A-Level courses you need to obtain as well as its grades.
You can find the country / institution list that accept IGCSE through this link

The grading of A-Level has two schemes, which are either A* – U system or 9 – 1
system. The A* – G system consists of grades of A*, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and U. Grade A*
is exclusively given for students who extremely do well in their test. Meanwhile U
stands for “Ungraded” and is the opposite of A* grade. The 9 – 1 system is a new
grading scheme where it consists scores of 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1.
